Just bought a rig with an early-80s EML car that needs a rebuild on the front caliper. There is a logo on the caliper body, but it is too stylized for me to read.
Any ideas on what brand it might be, and how to get a rebuild kit? |

Our EMLs both used the stock bike calipers on the front ends. _________________ Mike Currin

I think he was asking about the sidecar brake.
I don't know for usre, but there's a pretty darned good chance it's a Brembo. They make most brake parts in Europe - even if it has another name on it. |

Thanks for your help so far.
Clarification:
The EML came with a leading link front end for the bike. The caliper in question is on the front suspension. It is not the stock Honda caliper.
The caliper is a dual piston (total of 4 braking surfaces on the disk).
The logo on the caliper looks like an "M" with something else overlaid on it. I took a digital picture, but I don't know if it can be attached here. |

I think it is an EML caliper. They used to make their own calipers in the early-80s. _________________ Nostalgia' s nice but, nothing beats Performance.

If it is an EML caliper, would there be a source for rebuild kits?
Or would I be better off just to adapt to something more contemporary.
(I have some home machine shop capability here.) |

I've found the new EML importer to be less than responsive to parts orders, you may be better adapting something. _________________ Mike Currin

I doubt it's the importers fault - not many people stock anything for 20+ year old vehicles. I doubt anyone has any.
What exactly do you need? If the caliper is working I'd leave it alone. If you need the o-rings, etc. then take it apart, and bring the old ones to a good european motorcycle place; there's a chance you'll find similar ones from some other make/model of caliper.
If you just need pads, you might need to find a similar but different shape of pad and grind them down.
And if that fails... go to a junkyard and buy some old Honda calipers. Cheap, plentiful, and probably work much better than the EMLs ever did. |

Separate from the brake issue, I've been trying to get a part for a sidecar bought new in 2000, and was promised deliverey back in December, now I can't get a return email or call, I'd call that unresponsive. _________________ Mike Currin

How about if you try to get Powersl@ve to put a bug in EML's ear? _________________ CBR1100XX/EZS
